Neighborhood
South Tampa contains some of the most desirable locations in the city. Well known neighborhoods of Hyde Park, Davis Islands, Palma Ceia, and Culbreath Isles among others are in South Tampa. Geographically south Tampa is generally thought of as those neighborhoods south of Kennedy Blvd and stretching from Hillsborough Bay to Old Tampa Bay. The eastern shore of the south Tampa peninsula is dominated by 7 miles of beautiful Bayshore Boulevard.
Davis Islands are only a 4 minute drive from Mainsail South and was developed in the late 1920's and features broad streets, a number of architectural Mediterranean Revival gems. The Islands boast a small shopping district that caters to nearby neighbors. Davis Island is also home to Tampa General Hospital just across the channel from Bayshore Blvd. Historic neighborhood churches and historic Plant Hall at the University of Tampa are just some of the features that made Hyde Park Tampa's first experience with neighborhood gentrification in the 1970's and early 1980's.
Hyde Park is Tampa's first Historic District located just across the river from downtown Tampa. Tree shaded streets. Grand restored historic homes from the late 19th century boast pedestrian friendly streets from which to stroll to nearby Old Hyde Park Village. Further to the west are the many shops, nightlife and restaurants of the SOHO (South Howard). Schools like Plant High School and Roosevelt Elementary with outstanding reputations are highly sought after area by those with school age children. From these neighborhoods it is a quick commute to the Mainsail South Residences, Downtown Tampa, and the MacDill AfB.
